Beginning Brioche: cowl
Level: Beginner
Have you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between Brioche stitches and Fisherman’s rib? Join this class to learn these methods, how to tell them apart, and how to benefit from using them. We will make a reversible cowl using the Boshoku Cowl.
Skills needed: knowing how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off.

- US 11 (8 mm) circular needle, 24ʺ long

Using the Crochet Chain method CO 101 sts. Join work into rnd, pm at the join.
COLORFUL BRIOCHE: knitting with 2 or more colors
Level: Intermediate
You have mastered the technique of Brioche but now wish to expand your skills by experimenting with colors and creating directional patterning using the Brioche technique. You will discover numerous methods of decreases and increases while taming any mistakes that might occur along the way while creating the Tenchi Cowl.
Skills needed: basic brioche

- Brioche stitch using 2 colors
- Fisherman’s Rib/Tuck stitch using 2 colors
- How to reach your brioche/tuck stitches fabric and on the needle
- Learn about nuances of working brioche flat and in the round
- How to fix your mistakes in Brioche

For Both:
- US 9 (5.5 mm) 16-24” circular needle
- US 8 (5 mm) 16-24” circular needle
- US 7 (4.5 mm) 16-24” circular needle or needles to obtain gauge
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
Homework:
Using Tubular method for 1×1 rib or other preferred method, CO 120 sts with MC
onto the largest size needle.
3 DIMENSIONAL KNITWEAR
Level: Beginner
This class is part demonstration and short lecture about 3D knitwear in hand-knitting, and all inspiration process! We will swatch while I present my 3D design philosophy geared toward guiding you to your own discovery of textural knitwear.
Skills needed: knit, purl, cast on, bind off
Skills learned:
- Introductory lecture on several basic principles of dimensional texture used in knitwear
- Learning cast on and bind off techniques for stretchy edgings, along with the purpose for this in dimensional knitwear
- Learning to work partial knitting and short rows, and the difference between the two techniques
- Swatching a series of techniques and reviewing all the possibilities
You will receive a printed pattern for the Goji Cowl, which we will begin knitting in class if we have time.
Supplies:
For swatching:
- 2-3 colors of dk or worsted weight yarn, 200 yards/183m
- US 6/4mm needle, US 7/4.5 needle
For Goji Cowl:
- 569 yards/520 m of any worsted weight yarn
- US 6/4mm circular needle with 24-36″ cable/60-92cm and 2 spare circular needles in the same size or smaller
- Crochet hook size G/4mm
- Removable marker
- Waste yarn in smooth texture and similar weight to your cowl yarn
Homework: Using the Crochet Provisional cast on method and scrap yarn, cast on 107 stitches. Resume knitting with working yarn. Set up row 1 (WS) Purl all the way across.
