Knitting multi-colored projects can create fabulous graphic impact, but putting together a palette can be intimidating. This interactive class encourages you to dabble with hues and learn the basic tenets of color play that have been used by artists and graphic designers for centuries.

We’ll explore rainbows and gradients, then experience how tints, tones, and shades can combine to create magic on our needles. After discovering palettes customized to your aesthetic, we’ll explore how they can be translated into speckled, variegated, and tonal yarns.

I’ll share my most-used tips and tricks for organizing yarns for your next knitting project. You’ll leave this class with newfound Color Confidence, ready to head to the yarn market with new palettes in mind!

BUILDING A MYSTERY

Skill Level: Intermediate.  Comfortable with knitting simple lace and slip stitches, following pattern instructions

For the past five years, my mystery wraps have delighted knitters around the globe with their surprising use of color and unique construction. One of the most frequently asked questions is: how do I come up with them? This class is a peek inside my brain at how these masterpieces of stitches are created. From color choices to construction to stitches, learn all about the amazing amount of work that goes into these surprising designs, then try your hand at some of the construction basics!

  • Supplies Needed: Two or more colors of the same yarn weight with high contrast to one another and TWO sets of circular needles in the same size, sized appropriately for the yarn

STEP INTO SOCK KNITTING

Skill Level: Advanced beginner.  Comfortable working with small needles; reading pattern; knit, purl, increase and decrease stitches.

Have you been wanting to ‘step’ into sock knitting? This class will walk you through the basics of a top-down, heel flap and gusset, sock to get a comfortable fit for your feet.

We will explore needle options that best suit your knitting style, then cast-on tiny versions to learn the general construction of a top- down sock. I’ll share my all-time favorite cast-on that looks great and fits even better. Most importantly, we will establish the crucial knowledge of achieving a perfect fit every time, with tips and tricks to help along the way. You’ll be able to tackle any top-down sock pattern in your queue with exceptional results.

  • Supplies Needed: Two colors of sock yarn (fingering or DK weight) and needles for small-circumference knitting (DPNs, long circular, 2 circulars) sized appropriately for the yarn.
  • Skills Required: Experience knitting in the round on small circumference needles.
