Accommodations

We will be staying in the adult only section of this 5 star, all inclusive resort; our rooms are all suites, with an in-room jacuzzi, views of the garden or pools, a furnished balcony, free mini-bar with daily replacement service, air conditioning and ceiling fan, free wifi, tv, and a sofa and desk.

Our area includes an exclusive adults-only pool and beach area, exclusive restaurants and bars, and 24/7 room service. All resort fees, taxes, gratuities, meals and beverages are included with your reservation. Of course, your knitting classes and projects are also included!

ADA rooms are available upon request; the resort is adapted for people with reduced mobility, with wheelchair access and elevators in all the areas of the hotel. Wheelchairs are available to rent (callcenter@majestic-resorts.com)

The resort has also included an airport transfer shuttle for us.

Check-in time is 3 p.m. and check-out is 12 p.m. Should you arrive early, you can store your luggage in a locker in the lobby, and enjoy the hotel facilities while you wait.

The resort features 9 pools and a 985′ “lazy river” with swim up bar. There is a full spa on site, at which you can book your own experience. A 2 story on-site gym is free for us to use from 8am – 7pm.

This area is world renowned for golf, so bring your clubs and enjoy 2 included green fees per adult, per stay. Prefer tennis? 4 courts are available to you,as well as a Pickleball court, with free group lessons.

Meals

On Wednesday night, join us at the bar for cocktails, after which we will enjoy a Welcome dinner.

All meals and beverages are included in the retreat price. In addition to unlimited meals, enjoy unlimited snacks, coffees, soft drinks and adult beverages, all included.

In addition to 2 buffet style restaurants, there are an additional 5 a la carte restaurants available to us; the restaurants feature local and international cuisine. You can check them out here.

Menu options to accommodate dietary restrictions and/or allergies such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and celiac, are available. Please notify the customer service staff upon arrival at the hotel..

Classes

Join Lorilee Beltman as she guides us on a journey of stranding color vertically in our knitting! This method of knitting offers new possibilities, where many colors of yarn can be worked at once.

In class, learn how to introduce strands of contrasting color to your work, how to work with them so they are user-friendly, and how to adequately anchor the stitches without overdoing it. Once you learn the tricks in class, the technique is easy to execute and repeat. Everyone can do it. The beauty happens in creative applications.

During our relaxed-pace time together we’ll make a swatch to learn the technique. That will also serve as a gauge swatch, so that we can be ready to cast on the included pattern project. We’ll participate in group knitting time throughout the retreat, so that we can watch each other progress with our pattern.

Skills needed: Students must be comfortable knitting flat back-and-forth with basic skills of cast on, knit, purl, increases, and decreases. All of the rest will be taught.

Our next class will be New Beginnings With The Magic Cast On.

In this techniques class, you’ll learn many unexpected uses for the magic cast on that you will use often in your knitting life. Hems, tubular cast on, and provisional cast on can all be done without waste yarn and crochet hooks. There’s more! Wait till you see.

On Sunday, we’ll offer a silk dyeing project, and you’ll take the completed item home with you, as a souvenir of our time together.

Yarn Market and Swag

We are hoping to host an on-site yarn market, where you’ll be able to purchase kits, skeins, and so much more! More information as we get closer to the retreat event.

Each reservation includes a Luxury Swag Bag, filled with special items curated by Wild Onion. We’ve been told that our swag is the best ever!

Ample Knitting Time

In addition to our classes, we have built in 2 free days, for knitting or excursions (optional and not included in the cost of the retreat). On Friday, Lorilee and I invite you to visit Scape Park with us. There’s also fun shopping near the resort, excursions such as snorkeling, cultural tours, horseback riding, or stay on site and take advantage of the relaxing hotel amenities. We have another mainly free day on Sunday, with a small class planned. Most of the day will be free to loll around the beach or pool, or find a shady nook and nap or read.

Of course, we’ve made plenty of time for knitting!

Enjoy the classes, then grab your knitting bag and head to the beach, pool, or outdoor space with some of your new friends. At night, we’ll knit and chat by the fire pits with snacks and drinks, in case we haven’t indulged enough during the day.

Transportation Details

Punta Cana is serviced by Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) The airport is 15 miles from the resort; we have a shuttle arranged for transfer from the airport to the resort. This is included in the cost of the retreat. We’ll email you with more information closer to the event.

You will need a current passport with 2 blank pages, valid at least 6 months out from your entry into the Dominican Republic.

Reservations include a non-refundable $300 Service Fee per person (note: this fee is only charged for a guest’s cancellation, it is not an addition to the retreat price)
